A Dozen Sun

The 3,6 meter hight and wide sun sculpture was made in the Summer 2021 for The People's Meeting in August 2021. It was a commission by The School of Rhytmic Music where the People's Meeting took place. Local people in the area delivered their yellow and orange hard plastic waste in special containers at the municipality's recycling stations. Volunteers from 8 different countries helped with everything from collecting, washing, sorting, cutting and mounting all the 5000 recycled plastic pieces. The steel construction was created by co-artist Martin Hagbart Madsen.

A Dozen Sun quickly proved to have a bigger outreach than expected, so by agreement with The School of Rhytmic Music, the sculpture went on a one year tour and has by now visited Anneberg Culture Park, The Royal Playhouse (Copenhagen Light Festival), Hønsinge recycling station as a michelin figure for new recycling systems, and now The Parilament Square (Christiansborg Slotsplads) where it's as a landmark for peace in Ukraine. The agreement is that it should return to The Rhytmic School of Music for the People's Meeting in 2022.

Light was sponsored by the local company Electricom, chicken wire by the local building market STARK, and steel by the local blacksmith Tengslemark Smedie.
